Bitwig Studio 5.3 Beta Released with New Drums
Bitwig has released a beta version of Bitwig Studio 5.3 with some exciting new features. The update includes 25 new drum instruments divided into three groups: v8, v9, and v0. The 808 drum machine inspires the v8 group, while the v9 group is based on the 909. The v0 group is a collection of digital drum synths.
The new drum instruments offer a lot more control than the original hardware they’re based on. For example, the v8 devices have an average of five color parameters, and their ranges can be extended to create new sounds. The v9 devices have additional knobs for Impact, Tone, and Punch, which can be connected to Bitwig’s modulators to vary with velocity or bar position. The v0 family uses digital drum synthesis techniques, like detuned oscillator banks, FM, physical models, and harmonic filter sets, to create highly flexible instruments that sound electric, acoustic, or unique.
In addition to the new drum instruments, Bitwig Studio 5.3 introduces a step sequencing note device and a Master Recording feature in the Transport section. This allows users to record an entire session or resample on the fly. The update also supports Windows on ARM and improves opening projects and configuring audio i/os, making the process faster and easier.
