GIFT Nifty smashes records with $106 billion surge
The international derivatives platform NSE International Exchange reported that its GIFT Nifty futures product generated trading activity worth $106.22 billion during October, setting a new monthly record. The figure surpassed the prior peak of $102.35 billion from May 2025 and represented 2.11 million contracts changing hands.
Since beginning comprehensive operations on July 3, 2023, the platform has processed more than 52.77 million contracts with aggregate trading value reaching $2.40 trillion through the end of October. The exchange noted that participation has expanded substantially, reflecting increasing worldwide confidence in using the instrument as a proxy for tracking Indian market performance. On October 24, 2025, outstanding positions hit a record level of 410,100 contracts valued at $21.23 billion.
NSE International Exchange operates from GIFT City and received approval from the International Financial Services Centres Authority after its June 5, 2017, establishment. The platform commands over 99.7 percent of the derivatives market activity within GIFT IFSC and provides access to Indian equity derivatives, currency products, depositary receipts and international equities. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman introduced a foreign currency payment mechanism at GIFT City in October to support cross-border commerce.
