Ibom Air signs N200M deal to sponsor Akwa United
Akwa Ibom State Carrier agreed to provide 200 million naira over two years to Akwa United Football Club through a combination of cash payments and operational support, as announced at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo on Thursday. Acting Managing Director George Uriesi said half the sponsorship covers airline services and logistics as the partnership advances community goals in athletics, wellness and learning. The 1997 club won the Nigerian Premier Football League title in 2021 and captured two FA Cup championships.
Chairman Joseph Eno said the arrangement strengthens morale among athletes and coaching staff as management rebuilds competitive capabilities. Sports Commissioner Paul Bassey credited the agreement with fulfilling government priorities that encourage business participation in athletic programs. Officials unveiled team uniforms displaying airline branding and established oversight committees. Stakeholders expect the deal to stabilize club finances and improve player conditions.
