India’s ethanol push boosts farmers’ incomes
India’s transition to green energy under Prime Minister Narendra Modi has boosted farmer earnings and reduced dependence on imported oil, Petroleum Minister Hardeep Singh Puri said on Saturday. The ethanol program has added 107,580 crore rupees to agricultural incomes while saving 126,210 crore rupees in foreign exchange by cutting crude imports.
A second-generation bio-ethanol facility in Golaghat, Assam, is transforming the regional economy and benefiting farmers across the northeast. The plant aligns with Modi’s vision of converting food producers into energy suppliers.
A bamboo-based bio-ethanol refinery nearing completion in Assam will produce 49 kilotonnes per year and increase income for about 30,000 rural families across four states. The initiative creates employment opportunities while reducing carbon emissions and foreign currency expenditure.
