Kenya deepens global ties to drive digital transformation
Kenya’s delegation participated in discussions with international organizations and business leaders at the Global Digital Public Infrastructure Summit in Cape Town, advancing the nation’s technology development priorities. Principal Secretary Eng. John Kipchumba Tanui from the State Department of ICT and Digital Economy led meetings with representatives from the World Bank, GIZ, ITU and Equity Group CEO Dr. James Mwangi. Participants emphasized partnerships between government and commercial entities to drive innovation forward.
GIZ detailed work through its Digital Transformation Centre on business process outsourcing support and cooperation with the Office of the Data Protection Commissioner regarding information management standards. ITU representatives discussed the Open Source Program Office initiative, which selected Kenya as one of two countries worldwide for pilot implementation alongside Trinidad and Tobago. The World Bank presented assistance spanning three areas: network connectivity and availability, government operations and citizen services, and workforce capabilities plus market development.
Mwangi stressed building reliable digital foundations through coordinated efforts between public agencies and private companies to achieve scalable solutions. Tanui reaffirmed the country’s focus on creating trustworthy and connected technology systems through international cooperation to strengthen Kenya’s continental leadership position.
