Mining fuels nearly half of Namibia’s exports in September
Namibia generated N$3.6 billion from mineral exports during September, representing nearly half of all goods shipped abroad, according to statistics released by the national agency tracking international trade. The mining sector increased its monthly earnings by N$1.7 billion as global buyers sought uranium, diamonds, gold and nickel concentrate from southern African suppliers.
Uranium-led commodity sales at 21.1 percent of export value, while diamonds contributed 19.8 percent. Fish ranked third at 13.5 percent, followed by non-monetary gold at 10.7 percent and nickel ores at 5.6 percent. These five products combined delivered approximately 71 percent of earnings from international sales. Alex Shimuafeni, who leads the Namibia Statistics Agency as chief executive and statistician general, noted that mineral commodities dominated the composition of goods leaving the country during the month.
