Oni-Tel launches fibre network to link Gauteng data centres
Oni-Tel Fibre Networks launched an inter-data center fiber network that links major data centers across Gauteng, with Digital Parks Africa serving as the first point of presence. The system offers a high-speed, low-latency backbone designed to improve enterprise and cloud performance and to support scalable digital operations across the region.
The company said the infrastructure is tailored for data center interconnects and external links such as carrier points of presence, colocation hubs and campus cross-connects. Oni-Tel has installed more than 70 kilometers of fiber and preconfigured the network to handle time-sensitive services, while advanced sensing and proactive monitoring aim to detect and resolve faults before customers are affected. Management described the build as a clean, modern alternative to legacy backhaul systems that emphasize reliability and predictable costs. At the Midrand launch, DPA head of business development Eckart Zollner highlighted the partnership and noted customers are already connected through the data center, underscoring cooperation as a driver of industry progress.
