Oyetola backs NIMAREX push for local shipping
Marine and Blue Economy Minister Adegboyega Oyetola pledged federal support for domestic shipping companies seeking international markets. The minister met with the Nigeria Maritime Exhibition and Conference organizers on a recent weekday at his Abuja office. Committee Chairman Sola Adewunmi and Nigerian Shipowners Association representatives requested backing for the November event in Lagos.
Oyetola said the Tinubu administration will establish policies and infrastructure to help Nigerian vessels compete globally. The government wants locally owned ships operating in coastal waters and foreign routes to generate employment and economic value. Adewunmi said the conference will unite public and private stakeholders after years of inactivity. The Shipowners Association of Nigeria and Nigerian Chamber of Shipping endorsed the platform scheduled from Nov. 17 through 19 next year.
