State Farm eyes 2027 Massachusetts expansion
State Farm plans to sell home and auto policies in Massachusetts starting in early 2027 after filing paperwork with state regulators. The Illinois-based carrier holds less than one percent of the market in both categories and currently services only 22,000 auto policies and 10,000 home policies for customers who have moved to the state. Spokesman Tom Hartmann said the company sees strong potential to add products and reach more buyers.
Mapfre dominates the Massachusetts market after buying Commerce Group in 2008 and rebranding two years later. State Farm employs more than 65,000 workers across the country and remains the largest property and casualty insurer in America. The firm recently launched a voluntary exit program that gives employees alternatives when business units need to reduce staff. Layoffs will happen only in narrow circumstances as each division decides whether to use the new option.
