Using Q and A Regex in Google Search Console
When you work in Google Search Console (GSC), you must know what questions people ask about your website. This regex pattern helps you find these questions. It catches search terms that start with words like “how,” “what,” “where,” and other question words.
Finding the Search Terms
Open GSC and go to the Search Results section. Click on Queries, then use the filter option. Put this regex pattern in the filter box:
^(who|what|where|when|why|how|was|did|do|is|aren't|won't|does|if)\s
Why You Want Question Keywords
Question keywords show what people want to know. They search differently when they have questions. Instead of typing “pizza delivery NYC,” they might ask, “Where can I get pizza delivered in NYC?” These longer searches tell you more about what your readers need.
Making Content That Answers Questions
Look at the questions people ask. Write content that gives them answers. Put the questions in your headings. Answer them clearly in your text. This helps Google understand that your page answers these exact questions.
Getting Better Search Rankings
Google likes pages that answer questions well. When you use the questions people ask, you can write better answers. Your pages will match what people search for. This helps you show up higher in search results.
Checking Your Results
Look at your GSC data every month. See if more people find your site through questions. Check if people stay on your pages longer when they come from question searches. This tells you if your answers help them.
Making Changes That Work
Use the matching questions in your page titles and headers. Write clear answers right at the start of your content. Keep checking GSC to find new questions people ask. Update your content to answer these new questions, too.
