What does Master Pitch do in FL Studio?

Master Pitch is a knob you can find in FL Studio. It changes the pitch of the sounds you’re using in FL Studio. It can make the sounds higher or lower.

If you turn the knob to the right, the sounds will get higher. We say the pitch goes up. If you turn it to the left, the sounds get lower. Then we say the pitch goes down. It’s an easy way to change how high or low your music sounds.

Changing the default pitch

The normal setting for Master Pitch makes the note A have a frequency of 440 Hz. But you can change this if you want. You have to right-click on the Master Pitch knob. Then choose “Type in value”. Now, you can type in a new frequency for A. This changes the tuning of your whole song.

Turning on Master Pitch

Master Pitch doesn’t always change the sound. For it to work, you have to turn it on. You do this in the “Channel Settings”. There’s a button that says, “Enable main pitch.” You have to click this for each channel where you want Master Pitch to work.

Changing the notes

You can also use Master Pitch to change the notes in your song. Usually, it just changes the pitch without changing the notes. But if you click “Add to Key,” then Master Pitch will change the actual notes instead of just the pitch.

How Master Pitch works with audio clips

Master Pitch works a bit differently for audio clips. Audio clips are recordings of real sounds, not instruments like those in FL Studio.

When you use Master Pitch on an audio clip, you should use “Stretch” mode. This makes the audio clip longer or shorter to match the new pitch. If you don’t use “Stretch,” the audio clip will sound weird when you change the pitch.

Snapping to 100 cents

The Master Pitch knob snaps to certain positions. Each snap is 100 cents. Cents are a way to measure pitch. There are 100 cents in a semitone. A semitone is the distance between two keys on a piano.

If you don’t want the knob to snap, you can hold down the Shift key. Then you can turn the knob smoothly without snapping.

Why use Master Pitch?

There are lots of reasons you might want to use Master Pitch. Maybe you want your song to sound higher or lower. Maybe you want to change the key of your song. Or maybe you just want to experiment and see what sounds cool.

Master Pitch is a quick way to change the overall sound of your song. You can totally transform how your song feels just by turning a knob. It’s a really powerful tool.

However, it’s also easy to overuse Master Pitch. If you change the pitch too much, your song might sound unnatural or out of tune. Finding the right balance is key.

Learn by experimenting

The best way to learn about Master Pitch is to play around with it. Make a simple beat in FL Studio. Then start turning the Master Pitch knob. Listen to how the sound changes.

Please try all the different settings we discussed. Please enable it for some channels but not others. See what happens when you use “Add to Key.” If you’re using audio clips, try them with and without “Stretch.”

The more you experiment, the more you’ll understand how Master Pitch works. You’ll start to get a feel for when to use it and when to leave it alone. Like any tool in FL Studio, it takes practice to master.
