Where is Zimbabwe?
Zimbabwe is a country in southern Africa. South Africa borders it to the south, Botswana to the west, Zambia to the north, and Mozambique to the east. The capital and biggest city is Harare.
The land in Zimbabwe has lots of high flat areas called plateaus. Mountains run along the eastern border. The Zambezi River flows along the northern border, where you can find the famous Victoria Falls – one of the world’s largest waterfalls.
The country has rich farmland and valuable minerals like gold and diamonds. Many people work in farming and mining. Zimbabwe also has beautiful national parks with lots of wild animals, which bring many tourists to visit.
About 15 million people live in Zimbabwe. Most speak English as well as local languages like Shona and Ndebele. The country used to be called Rhodesia when Britain ruled it, but it became independent in 1980.
