ZEISS opens closed beta for CinCraft Virtual Lens Tech
ZEISS opened its CinCraft Virtual Lens Technology to filmmakers through a restricted testing phase after announcing the software in May. The plugin works inside Nuke compositing programs to let effects artists add realistic lens characteristics from the company’s catalog with a single command.
The German manufacturer built digital versions of physical lenses that reproduce optical behavior for two-dimensional post-production work. Artists can select equipment the same way cinematographers choose glass from rental houses, applying authentic distortion and focus patterns without manual adjustment.
ZEISS relied on its optical engineering background to solve problems artists face when matching computer-generated elements to footage shot through real lenses. The system stores lens data in a searchable library that delivers consistent results across projects.
The beta program lets participants test the technology before wider release. ZEISS designed the tools to reduce time spent recreating lens effects that previously required technical expertise and repeated attempts to match camera characteristics accurately.
