Addison Rae, Arca – Aquamarine / Arcamarine
Addison Rae had a great start to 2024. She sang on two big songs early in the year. She worked with her friend Charli XCX on a Von Dutch remix that went viral. She also sang on A.G. Cook’s song “Lucifer.”
Her own first song of the year was called “Diet Pepsi.” It was a slow, dreamy song that made it onto the Billboard charts. She first sang it live at Madison Square Garden during the Sweat tour. Then she put out another song called “Aquamarine” that sounded a bit like Madonna. Both songs had cool videos made by Sean Price Williams, who usually makes movies. A famous magazine editor named Mel Ottenberg helped make the videos look extra stylish.
Recently, another artist named Arca made a remix of “Aquamarine.” They called it “Arcamarine.” But sadly, it wasn’t as good as Rae’s other work this year. The remix played it too safe. Both Rae and Arca usually make bold, wild music, but this remix was pretty plain. It sounded like the kind of remix big music companies make just to get more streams. The slower beat took away what made the original song special. When you hear it, you might feel a bit let down.
