Ahmedabad bullet train station nears finish line
India’s railway infrastructure minister announced significant advancement on the Ahmedabad bullet train terminal during a progress assessment of station upgrades and the nation’s inaugural high-speed rail link. Ashwini Vaishnaw stated that construction at the facility has reached late-stage completion, with the structure forming part of an integrated transportation hub alongside conventional rail platforms. The combined complex will enable direct passenger transfers between services.
More than 1,300 stations nationwide are undergoing modernization efforts, with Ahmedabad representing a priority location. Development of the multi-level structure has progressed substantially, featuring two underground levels and four above-ground floors approaching completion. Elevated roadway construction has installed 38 of 41 support columns and placed 154 of 253 structural beams. The station will gain three additional platforms to expand handling capacity.
The 508-kilometer Mumbai-Ahmedabad corridor represents the country’s first bullet train system and is targeted for 2029 operations. A 50-kilometer segment connecting Surat and Bilimora should begin service by 2027. Vaishnaw stated that travel time between the terminal cities will drop to two hours and seven minutes from the current nine-hour journey. Safety systems will address vibrations, strong winds and seismic activity through specialized engineering features.
