India, Romania push deal as FTA talks hit crunch
India and Romania have committed to finalizing a trade agreement between New Delhi and the European Union before year-end, following discussions between Indian Commerce and Industry State Minister Jitin Prasada and Romanian Foreign Affairs Minister Oana-Silvia Țoiu in Bucharest. The two nations plan to strengthen commercial ties through enhanced cooperation in petroleum, engineering products, medicines and ceramic manufacturing while establishing more resilient production networks.
Officials agreed to streamline regulatory processes and expand professional mobility options between the countries. Romania recently announced its capacity to accept approximately 30,000 skilled Indian workers annually to address domestic labor needs. Trade between the partners reached nearly $3 billion during the 2023-24 fiscal period, with Indian shipments to Romania surpassing $1 billion in the most recent fiscal year.
Both governments will maintain regular diplomatic exchanges to sustain progress made during recent leadership meetings. Prasada and Țoiu emphasized developing standardized testing protocols and attracting cross-border capital flows to improve bilateral market access and convert economic opportunities into concrete business results.
