Airtel Nigeria launches 4G phone financing plan
Airtel Nigeria has introduced a smartphone financing initiative allowing existing subscribers to acquire 4G-enabled devices through installment payments rather than upfront costs. The telecommunications provider will offer the Itel A50 handset initially, targeting users still operating 2G and 3G equipment to facilitate their transition to faster connectivity.
Eligibility requires at least three months of active service on the network, a registered SmartCash account, and valid identification documentation. Approved customers pay between 19,000 and 21,000 naira as a down payment before receiving their device, with subsequent weekly installments processed exclusively through the SmartCash mobile money platform.
Chief Executive Officer Dinesh Balsingh characterized the program as removing financial barriers to digital participation, while Marketing Director Ismail Adeshina highlighted the use of intelligent scoring systems for applicant evaluation. Interested subscribers can verify their financing status through a USSD code before completing onboarding at company retail locations.
