Lagos commissioner Oluyinka Olumide urges ethical conduct at LASPPPA
Lagos State Physical Planning Commissioner Dr. Oluyinka Olumide has instructed officers at the Lagos State Physical Planning Permit Authority to maintain strong ethical standards as the agency experiences a surge in building permit applications during an ongoing amnesty program. Speaking at LASPPPA headquarters in Ikeja, Olumide noted that property owners with unapproved structures can regularize their developments without penalties through the initiative, which waives statutory fees for those meeting planning and safety requirements.
The commissioner emphasized that the program does not guarantee automatic approvals but aims to promote orderly urban development. He directed staff to accelerate processing times, conduct thorough compliance reviews, and communicate clearly with applicants while treating them respectfully. Olumide warned against delays or improper practices, stressing that only buildings meeting minimum standards should receive approval.
Property owners can submit applications through 57 district offices or an electronic portal, providing required documentation, including survey plans, ownership proof, and design drawings. The commissioner encouraged residents to use the amnesty window before it closes.
