Amit Shah announces India’s maritime revolution plan
India will become a global maritime leader through government reforms that emphasize security, stability and self-reliance, Home Minister Ami Shah said on Monday at the India Maritime Week conference in Mumbai. The sector accounts for about 60 percent of gross domestic product through ports, shipping and logistics operations.
Representatives from more than 100 nations attended the event, which aims to attract 80 lakh crore rupees in investments and create 1.5 crore new positions. The administration plans to develop vessels powered entirely by green fuels such as ammonia and methanol by 2030. Officials completed 70 infrastructure projects under the Sagarmala initiative.
The government will build Vadhavan Port in Maharashtra to rank among the world’s 10 largest facilities. The country maintains an 11,000-kilometer coastline across 13 states and territories that supports trade and economic activity. Authorities will implement artificial intelligence systems to reduce fuel consumption by 15 percent while digitalizing 95 percent of clearance procedures.
