Apple hits record India shipments in Q3
India shipped 48.4 million smartphones between July and September, marking a 3 percent annual increase as Apple achieved record deliveries and captured 10 percent of the market. Research firm Omdia reported that manufacturers stocked retail channels heavily ahead of the festive shopping season. The growth stemmed from product launches in July and August, combined with retailer incentives and earlier festival timing that accelerated inventory movement.
Limited organic consumer demand meant the quarter’s performance relied on incentive programs rather than genuine market recovery. Manufacturers redirected marketing funds toward retail rewards such as per-unit bonuses, tiered profit margins and dealer competitions offering prizes from gold coins to international travel. Consumer promotions featured zero-down-payment financing, small installment options, bundled accessories and extended warranties to boost sales.
Vivo led the market with 9.7 million units and 20 percent share, while Samsung placed second with 6.8 million units at 14 percent. Xiaomi and OPPO each shipped 6.5 million units for third place. Apple entered the top five with 4.9 million units, growing through smaller cities where aspirational buyers responded to festival offers and wider product availability.
