Bank of Ghana trains journalists on economic policy
Ghana’s central bank trained 30 journalists from three regions on monetary policy and economic reporting to reduce misinformation in financial news coverage. The two-day workshop in Sunyani targeted reporters from the Bono, Bono East, and Ahafo regions.
Bernard Otabil, from the Bank of Ghana, said the program helps journalists grasp complex financial topics they regularly cover. He told participants that their reporting shapes investor choices and market behavior. The bank official urged reporters to maintain accuracy and reject harmful interests.
Regina Benneh Siaw of the Ghana Journalists Association praised the central bank for expanding reporters’ knowledge. Frederick Antwi, another journalist leader, said the training helps media professionals spot false information about bank data.
Sessions covered inflation patterns, foreign exchange markets, regulatory functions, and central bank reports. Freda Ampedua Abban, a broadcaster, said the workshop clarified technical terms used in economic discussions.
