Bhai Dooj bonanza lifts India trade Rs 22000cr
The Bhai Dooj festival generated about 22,000 crore rupees in trade nationwide, the Confederation of All India Traders reported on Thursday. Delhi merchants recorded sales of nearly 2,800 crore rupees as families celebrated the traditional brother-sister bond. Heavy crowds filled markets in major urban centers as shoppers purchased sweets, clothing, jewelry and gifts.
Sales of domestically made products increased by roughly 50 percent from the previous year, according to the trade group. Member of Parliament Praveen Khandelwal said the festival supports government efforts to promote local manufacturing and economic self-reliance. Traditional sweets, handcrafted presents and handloom garments saw strong buyer interest. Travel services, restaurants and hotels reported increased activity as people gathered for family celebrations on Thursday.
