Blackmagic fuels horror film revival
Blackmagic Design has supported horror filmmakers through its equipment and software since the company was founded by CEO Grant Petty in 2001. The Australian manufacturer produces cinema cameras, video capture technology, and DaVinci Resolve editing software used across budget levels.
Major productions employed Blackmagic tools for recent releases. The forthcoming 28 Years Later utilized DaVinci Resolve and the Blackmagic Camera application. Alien Romulus and The Substance relied on Resolve for post-production workflows. Independent features like “Talk To Me” and “Curse of the Sin Eater” incorporated both cameras and software.
Horror cinematographers praised specific camera models in recent interviews. The Pocket Cinema Camera 6K earned recognition for portability and ISO performance. The URSA Cine 17K 65 garnered attention for its large-format sensor and competitive pricing compared to established manufacturers like ARRI.
Future projects may incorporate emerging Blackmagic technology. The Camera ProDock enables multi-phone production workflows for feature films. The URSA Cine Immersive camera addresses the challenges of stereoscopic filming. The Resolve Micro Color Panel offers Bluetooth connectivity for remote color grading operations.
