UIDAI plots Aadhaar power grab
The Unique Identification Authority of India said on Friday it has launched a strategic and technological review to guide Aadhaar’s development over the next decade through a new framework called Aadhaar Vision 2032. This effort responds to fast-changing technology and regulations.
The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology stated that the plan will strengthen Aadhaar’s technical foundation, adopt new digital tools, and maintain India’s digital identity system as strong, inclusive, and prepared for the future. The UIDAI’s current technology, which supports Aadhaar services and powers much of the digital economy, is set to undergo a major upgrade.
UIDAI formed a high-level Expert Committee led by Neelkanth Mishra, Chairperson of UIDAI, to shape this transformation. The group includes specialists from academia, industry, and government. It will draft the Aadhaar Vision 2032 document, aligning the system with India’s Digital Personal Data Protection Act and global standards for privacy and cybersecurity.
The framework will utilize advanced technologies, including artificial intelligence, blockchain, quantum computing, enhanced encryption, and next-generation data security. These steps aim to protect Aadhaar from cyber threats, support growing demand, and adapt to shifts in the digital world.
