Cameroon urges use of certified devices for safer networks
Cameroon’s Telecommunications Regulatory Board urged consumers to purchase only certified mobile phones, tablets and digital terminal equipment, warning that unapproved devices sourced from informal markets can degrade network performance, compromise security and potentially expose users to unsafe electromagnetic radiation levels. The regulatory agency stated that non-compliant equipment interferes with cellular infrastructure, causing slower internet connections, dropped calls and increased cybersecurity vulnerabilities while undermining operator investments in network expansion.
Buyers can verify device certification through labels affixed by authorized distributors and by checking the board’s public database of approved equipment. Officials emphasized that proper certification supports national digital sovereignty by controlling technology imports, strengthening cybersecurity frameworks and protecting citizens from grey market risks while maintaining service quality across the telecommunications sector.
