Gabon, Equatorial Guinea advance cross-border digital ties
Representatives from Gabon’s Ministry of Digital Economy, Digitalisation and Innovation traveled to Equatorial Guinea on Saturday, November 9, to advance cooperation on telecommunications infrastructure connecting the neighboring nations. Officials examined fiber optic networks, transmission towers and border equipment installations near Mongomo in Equatorial Guinea and Oyem in Gabon before convening technical discussions involving regulators and mobile operators from both countries.
The bilateral session addressed implementation frameworks for fiber optic interconnection, roaming agreements eliminating charges for cross-border mobile usage, and coordination of radio frequencies along the shared frontier. Participants included personnel from Gabonese entities ARCEP, SPIN, ANINF, Moov Africa Gabon Telecom and Airtel Gabon alongside Equatorial Guinean counterparts, with the collaboration receiving backing from presidents Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema and Obiang Nguema Mbasogo.
