dfcu Bank pushes bancassurance across Uganda
DFCU Bank has introduced Bancassurance services to help Ugandans protect themselves against unexpected losses from fires, theft, and medical emergencies. Arthur Kintu, the bank’s Bancassurance head, said insurance provides practical protection for families, schools, and small businesses rather than serving only corporations and wealthy individuals. The bank offers bundled coverage options through partnerships with licensed insurers, allowing customers to handle banking and insurance needs in one place.
Schools can obtain comprehensive protection that covers buses, buildings, and people through motor insurance, fire and burglary protection, personal accident coverage for students, and medical insurance for staff. The Students’ Personal Accident plan costs 30,000 shillings per student, per year, and provides round-the-clock coverage for accidental death, disability, medical expenses, and school fees if a parent dies. Families can access J-Junior medical plans for children with dental, optical, and outpatient care, while J-Senior serves people aged 60 to 80.
Small businesses can purchase the Trader’s Comprehensive Insurance Policy, which bundles fire, burglary, public liability, and workers’ compensation coverage with flexible payment terms and fast claims processing. Customers complete an application form and receive confirmation within three business days after payment. Kintu said the bank views insurance as essential rather than optional for building financial resilience across Uganda.
