Elombi sworn in as Afreximbank president
Nigeria’s finance minister swore in George Elombi as the fourth president of the African Export-Import Bank at a ceremony in Cairo on Saturday. Wale Edun told the incoming leader to build an integrated and prosperous continent through the institution’s work.
Edun said the appointment marks a shift toward financial independence for African nations. He attended the same bank gathering four months earlier when members chose Elombi for the position. The minister brought greetings from President Bola Tinubu and Nigerian citizens to the event.
The new bank chief takes control as Africa rewrites its economic future through innovation, Edun said. Elombi worked at the institution before his elevation to the top role. The finance minister asked him to expand programs that reduce the continent’s reliance on foreign assistance.
