Ghost of Yotei outsells AC Shadows on PS5
Ghost of Yotei sold 2.5 million PlayStation 5 copies within three weeks of release. Assassin’s Creed Shadows reached 2.4 million units on the same platform since its March launch. Alinea Analytics attributes the performance gap to existing Ghost of Tsushima fans and strong PlayStation first-party buyer engagement.
Shadows led American software sales at launch and exceeded 5 million total units by summer across all platforms. The Ubisoft title ranked as Europe’s top-selling game through August. Both feudal Japan adventures feature revenge narratives where protagonists hunt six killers across open worlds.
Sucker Punch’s exclusive PlayStation release capitalized on goodwill from its 2020 predecessor. The studio refined mechanics that audiences found repetitive in Ubisoft’s open-world formula. Shadows will likely surpass Yotei in combined platform sales, given its availability on Xbox and planned Nintendo Switch 2 version.
