GIFT Nifty hits record $103b turnover
The GIFT Nifty futures contract achieved record monthly trading volume of $103.45 billion in October, the National Stock Exchange of India announced on Friday. The figure converts to approximately 9.16 trillion rupees and exceeds the previous peak of $102.35 billion set in May.
The milestone demonstrates expanding international confidence in Indian equities as a benchmark for market performance. The NSE International Exchange has operated the GIFT Nifty contract at full capacity since July 3, 2023, accumulating 52.71 million contracts worth $2.39 trillion through the end of October.
Open interest reached a new high on October 24, when 410,100 contracts represented $21.23 billion in value. That surpassed the prior record of $20.84 billion from September 2024 and signals broader participation from global investors.
The exchange operates at GIFT City under authority from the International Financial Services Centre and controls more than 99.7 percent of the market at the financial center. Trading activity has grown steadily since operations began two years ago.
