GOIL condemns AI-driven fake gold project scam
GOIL PLC has issued a warning about a fraudulent deepfake video circulating online that falsely shows Group Chief Executive Officer Edward Abambire Bawa promoting a fake gold investment program. The Ghanaian fuel distributor said the manipulated clip uses artificial intelligence to impersonate its leadership and deceive viewers into believing the company operates a government-supported precious metals venture or customer loyalty initiative.
The petroleum firm emphasized it has never pursued gold-related business activities or reward programs as depicted in the fabricated content. Officials characterized the incident as a cybercrime and said they are coordinating with law enforcement to track down those responsible for creating the misleading material. GOIL urged people to dismiss the video completely and remain vigilant against similar scams that exploit the brand recognition it has developed over decades.
The company directed stakeholders to verify announcements through its official website at goil.com.gh or authenticated social media accounts. Management stressed its dedication to honest communication and transparent operations while reassuring partners that protecting their interests remains paramount during the investigation.
