Google Lets Users Control Spotify Through Gemini

Google has released a Spotify extension for Gemini, allowing people to control the music service via chatbot. Users must use English. It is the second Gemini extension not for a Google service, after a WhatsApp extension.

Gemini extensions are integrations that allow the chatbot to work with an external service. With the Spotify extension, users can ask Gemini to find or play music on Spotify. To do this, users must link their Spotify account to their Google Account. The extension only works in English when the Gemini Apps Activity and the Gemini Android app are enabled.

The extension cannot create playlists or use Spotify radio. Gemini also has a YouTube Music integration. If users have both the Spotify and YouTube Music extensions enabled, Gemini will automatically use the last-used extension. If users want to use the other service, they have to say the name of the service.

Google released a WhatsApp extension for Gemini earlier this month, the first extension for a non-Google service. Previously, the SMS and Phone apps, Home and Gmail, had Gemini extensions. WhatsApp was rolled out in phases; Spotify may follow suit.
