John Williams reunites with Spielberg at 93
Composer John Williams will score Steven Spielberg’s untitled UFO film scheduled for release next June, marking their 30th collaboration. Juilliard School president Damian Woetzel announced the partnership on Monday at an event honoring Williams’ career in New York.
Williams walked back his 2022 retirement statement after completing Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny. The 93-year-old musician told reporters that he rejects definitive career pronouncements and prefers to keep future options available.
The UFO project features Josh O’Connor, Emily Blunt, Colman Domingo, Colin Firth, and Eve Hewson, with David Koepp handling screenplay duties. Cinematographer Janusz Kaminski and editor Michael Kahn return as regular collaborators for the production with Spielberg.
Williams earned 54 Academy Award nominations across his career, trailing only Walt Disney for most nods in history. His five Oscar victories include three for Spielberg films: Jaws, E.T., and Schindler’s List, since their partnership began in 1974 with The Sugarland Express.
