Kenya launches Nosim FM transmitter to boost local info
Kenya’s Ministry of Information, Communications, and the Digital Economy has launched the KBC Nosim FM transmitter in Oleleshwa Hills, Kajiado County, in a move to expand access to local broadcasting. Cabinet Secretary William Kabogo Gitau presided over the event, which aims to enhance communication between the Maasai community and its surrounding residents.
The station will broadcast educational and development-focused content on topics including land management, livelihoods, and sustainable resource use. Officials said the relaunch supports cultural preservation, civic engagement, and informed decision-making at the grassroots level, aligning with national efforts to ensure inclusive access to information.
KBC Board Chairman Tom Mshindi thanked partners for their support in installing the transmitter. The ceremony was attended by several officials, including Kajiado Deputy Governor Martin Moshisho, Secretary for Information and Broadcasting Temesi Mukani, KBC Managing Director Agnes Nguna, and Kajiado West Deputy County Commissioner Lydia Munyi. The initiative reflects the government’s broader strategy to close the information gap and strengthen community connectivity through upgraded broadcasting infrastructure.
