Samsung SDI partners with KESCO to boost ESS safety
Samsung SDI has joined forces with Korea Electrical Safety Corporation to establish stricter safety protocols for the country’s energy storage system sector. The battery manufacturer secured roughly 80 percent of bids in the nation’s initial long-cycle ESS tender worth about 1 trillion won.
The two organizations will work together on accident prevention guidelines, monitoring equipment deployment, and specialist education programs. A coordination committee will oversee the implementation of safety measures across the rapidly growing market.
The alliance supports government objectives for renewable energy expansion outlined in the 11th Basic Plan for Electricity Supply and Demand. Officials signed the formal agreement on Monday at Samsung SDI’s Giheung facility in Gyeonggi Province.
The partners previously announced in May plans to develop advanced battery storage systems capable of operating under harsh environmental conditions. The second phase of government ESS contracts opens later this month, with winner selections expected before January.
