Labour donors awarded £138m in government contracts
Companies that gave money to the Labour Party received 138 million pounds in government deals over 12 months, according to research from the Autonomy Institute. Eight firms donated 580,000 pounds between July 2024 and June 2025 before winning contracts worth 137.9 million pounds within two years.
The pattern affects both major parties since 2001, with Conservative-connected businesses collecting 25.4 billion pounds compared with 796 million pounds for Labour supporters. Total awards reached 28.8 billion pounds, with 125 donors contributing 30.15 million collectively.
Anti-corruption advocates want restrictions preventing political contributors from bidding on public work. Susan Hawley from Spotlight on Corruption said privileged relationships damage trust when taxpayer funds flow to party backers.
Baringa Partners donated 30,061 pounds in January 2024 and later secured 35.2 million pounds from departments. Officials maintain that all procurement complies with transparency requirements and delivers value to citizens.
