Lugoloobi urges value addition for export growth
Uganda must prioritize value addition to compete in export markets and advance manufacturing, Planning Minister Amos Lugoloobi said on Friday at the National Competitiveness Forum in Kampala. Producers need better processing facilities, standardized products, and superior packaging to reach regional buyers and global consumers.
The country cannot manufacture enough processed foods or animal feed supplements and relies on foreign suppliers. The government launched an Economic and Commercial Diplomacy Strategy using overseas missions to gather market data, promote exports, and attract investors.
Uganda secured $96 million through the INVITE Project loan, a $104 million grant, and $18 million from a multi-donor trust fund under the growth plan. The financing will expand manufactured exports and strengthen trade performance across sectors.
