Malaysia’s September inflation rises to 1.5%
Malaysia recorded 1.5 percent inflation in September as consumer prices climbed from 133.2 points to 135.2 points compared with the previous year. Personal care and miscellaneous services rose 4.8 percent, while food costs increased 2.1 percent, according to government statistics. Chief statistician Mohd Uzir Mahidin said 343 items showed higher prices, though most gains stayed under 10 percent.
Five states exceeded the national rate, with Johor reaching 2 percent and Kelantan posting the lowest gain at 0.5 percent. Fuel prices edged higher as RON97 petrol averaged 3.19 ringgit per liter and diesel reached 2.91 ringgit in the peninsular regions. Malaysia’s inflation rate remained below that of Vietnam at 3.4 percent and Indonesia at 2.7 percent, but surpassed Thailand and China, which showed price declines.
