Mistry quits Tata Trusts, cites Ratan Tata’s vision
Mehli Mistry will resign from his position with Tata Trusts after tensions led to his removal from the organization. He wrote to current chairman Noel Tata, stating his departure aims to protect the institution from damaging publicity and uphold promises made to the late Ratan Tata.
Mistry stated his resignation should end speculation in media reports that harm the charitable foundation. He explained his work at the organization followed Ratan Tata’s principles centered around ethical leadership, discreet charitable giving and complete honesty. The departing trustee expressed expectations that remaining board members would prioritize openness, proper oversight and benefit to society. He warned that allowing conflicts to escalate would severely damage the reputation of Tata Trusts.
Previous accounts indicated Mistry submitted legal paperwork with the Maharashtra Charity Commissioner requesting the chance to present his case before officials finalize his dismissal. Regulations require the charitable organization to obtain approval from the Charity Commissioner within 90 days for any modifications to its governing board. Mistry closed his correspondence by citing words he attributed to Ratan Tata about how no individual holds greater importance than the organization they represent.
