Modi film hits theatres nationwide
India’s Panchayati Raj Ministry will screen a two-minute public awareness film in theaters nationwide from Friday through Nov. 6. The documentary features Prime Minister Narendra Modi and highlights the People’s Plan Campaign, which seeks citizen input on village development projects. Officials say the campaign aligns with Modi’s vision of public participation and expanding government programs at the grassroots level.
The film showcases federal initiatives focused on women, health, solar energy, and education. Theaters will play it before movies and near the end of intermissions, except in states currently under election code restrictions. The campaign launched on Oct. 2 to help local councils create development plans for fiscal 2026-27 that balance community needs with national objectives.
Since 2018, the initiative has strengthened rural self-governance and participatory planning across India. Government data shows councils have submitted more than 1.8 million development plans since 2019, with 252,000 plans uploaded for the current cycle. The ministry aims to boost citizen involvement in local governance through the nationwide cinema campaign.
