Namibia connects Epinga, gifts smartphones
Namibia’s Ministry of Information and Communication Technology has launched a new network tower in the village of Epinga, located in the Ohangwena Region. This project, supported by the national Universal Service Fund, aims to bridge the digital divide in rural areas. During the event, Minister Emma Theofelus distributed over 130 Oka smartphones to residents.
The Communications Regulatory Authority of Namibia contributed 100 devices, while mobile operator MTC and its managing director personally donated the remaining handsets. The initiative also provided 100 SIM cards to ensure immediate access to the new network. Minister Theofelus emphasized that the effort demonstrates the government’s commitment to digital inclusion, extending beyond infrastructure to empower communities with essential communication tools.
