Standard Bank opens Egypt office, eyes Africa trade
Standard Bank Group, Africa’s largest financial institution, has officially opened a Representative Office in Egypt. The new office, launched at an event near the Pyramids of Giza, is intended to strengthen trade and investment connections between Egypt, Sub-Saharan Africa, and the Middle East. Group Chief Executive Sim Tshabalala stated that the expansion recognizes Egypt’s strategic importance as a logistics and investment hub.
The office will serve as a conduit for Egyptian businesses and international investors seeking opportunities across the bank’s extensive African network. According to executives, the move supports regional integration by providing local market intelligence and facilitating financial cooperation. This development complements the group’s existing strategy in the Middle East and North Africa region, reinforcing its role in connecting Gulf states with sub-Saharan African markets.
