Nigeria focuses on energy sustainability at OTL Week
Nigeria will maximize the value of its oil and gas assets through environmentally responsible practices as the petroleum sector adjusts to full market liberalization. Tunji Oyebanji, from the OTL Africa Downstream Energy Week Advisory Board, confirmed this position ahead of the conference, which started on Sunday in Lagos.
The deregulated system has prompted fresh discussions about carbon management and cleaner energy options across the downstream industry. Oyebanji said the government needs a dedicated agency to measure actual fuel usage, refinery production and storage capacity for better commercial planning and investment choices.
The 19th annual gathering examines sustainability and competition under the theme Energy Sustainability – Growth Beyond Boundaries and Competition. Ministers and regulators from five West African nations will address financing, technology and business restructuring through 60 speakers across 10 sessions.
OTL Downstream Development chief Joyce Akabogu said the forum connects local and international participants for business discussions and partnerships. The trade exhibition highlights refining operations, logistics networks, liquefied petroleum gas and petrochemicals alongside energy transition technologies.
