NUPRC targets 2030 gas flare-out goal
Nigeria plans to eliminate gas flaring at petroleum sites by 2030 through commercial programs that convert wasted fuel into electricity and household energy. Regulatory chief Gbenga Komolafe told delegates at a Petroleum Training Institute conference that resource management must prioritize environmental protection and community benefits alongside production targets. His representative, Kelechi Ofoegbu, said operators capture previously burned gas to supply power for small factories and clean cooking systems across the country. Africa holds 125 billion barrels of proven oil and 620 trillion cubic feet of gas reserves while more than 600 million residents lack electrical service.
