India aims for global 6G leadership with Bharat 6G Vision
India’s government is advancing plans to establish the nation as a center for sixth-generation wireless technology by 2030 through its Bharat 6G Vision program. The administration funded two experimental facilities for terahertz and optical communications research while establishing 100 laboratories at universities nationwide. Officials approved 104 research proposals for 6G network development.
The technology will deliver speeds 1,000 times faster than fifth-generation networks with minimal transmission delays, enabling remote medical procedures, robotics applications and virtual reality systems. The Telecom Technology Development Fund allocated more than 310 crore rupees across 115 projects focused on fifth and sixth-generation infrastructure. The Bharat 6G Alliance brings together government agencies, private companies, universities and research centers to build domestic capabilities in advanced telecommunications.
