Oz Perkins blasts Ryan Murphy’s Ed Gein series
Director Oz Perkins refused to watch the Netflix series Monster: The Ed Gein Story after learning the show portrays his late father, Anthony Perkins, in a controversial scene. The horror filmmaker told TMZ he would not view the program with a 10-foot pole when asked about the dramatization.
Ryan Murphy created the series about serial killer Ed Gein, whose crimes influenced horror films such as Psycho. The second episode depicts Alfred Hitchcock comparing the elder Perkins to Gein based on hidden aspects of their lives. Anthony Perkins never publicly discussed his relationships with men despite rumors in Hollywood circles.
The writer said streaming platforms transform authentic tragedy into content for profit. Critics described the series as exploitation masquerading as serious drama. The Guardian published negative reviews of the production after its release on Netflix.
