Qualcomm 2nm chip rumor splits insiders
Qualcomm plans to release its Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 processor in late 2026 with support for LPDDR6 memory and UFS 5.0 storage. The chip will use TSMC’s 2nm manufacturing process, though conflicting reports differ on whether it will adopt the standard N2 or the advanced N2P variant.
TSMC expects to reach full production capacity by the end of 2025, targeting 100,000 wafers per month. Apple has secured over half the initial 2nm supply, potentially limiting availability for competitors. A second source suggests all major chipmakers will use only the N2 process in 2026.
The memory and storage upgrades address growing demands from artificial intelligence applications. Phone manufacturers will decide whether to adopt these newer standards in their devices. TSMC charges approximately $30,000 per N2 wafer, with the N2P version likely costing more.
