Sam Altman says Tesla kept him waiting 7 years
OpenAI CEO Sam Altman stated on Friday that he has been waiting over seven years for a Tesla car he reserved and has yet to receive it. He paid a $45,000 reservation fee but now wants a refund. In a post on X, he shared three screenshots: one confirming his booking, another showing his refund request, and a third revealing the email bounced with an “address not found” error. He called it “a tale in three acts” and noted that while he understood delays, 7.5 years felt excessive.
The post drew widespread attention online. His brother, Jack Altman, joked that Sam, who once said he did not care about spending billions, should not worry over $50,000. Sam replied playfully, calling his brother’s comment “little brother energy.”
Tesla has not responded to the post. The company recently began delivering the standard Model Y in India and plans to roll out the Long Range version soon. New Model Y buyers will also receive a free Wall Connector for home charging.
