Sitharaman claims India to be third biggest soon
India will ascend to become the globe’s third-biggest economy before long, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said on Tuesday while addressing the diamond jubilee valedictory lecture at Delhi School of Economics. The nation has surged from 10th place economically in 2014 to fifth position today, with fourth place coming soon, she noted.
Sitharaman credited economic power as the foundation for India’s current international standing. She pointed out that 25 million citizens have escaped multidimensional poverty while emphasizing the importance of developing research models appropriate for emerging markets. The minister expressed optimism about achieving the fiscal deficit goal of 4.4 percent for the 2025-26 financial year.
Government data from Friday revealed that the fiscal deficit reached 5.73 lakh crore rupees during April through September, representing 36.5 percent of the annual budget estimate. Sitharaman also highlighted major improvements in public sector bank balance sheets, contrasting them with the twin balance sheet crisis inherited from the previous UPA administration. She mentioned that substantial work continues toward reforming customs regulations, while noting that India has not yet reached developed nation status ahead of the Viksit Bharat 2047 vision.
