Three remanded, minor granted bail in mining case
A court in the Bono Region sent three men to police custody and released a teenager on bail after authorities caught them mining without permits. The Wamfie District Magistrate Court ordered Moses Ayando, Joseph Akuwaaya, and John Akanboei held until their next hearing on November 4. Judge Eugene Obeng Ntim set bail at 50,000 cedis for 16-year-old Kwaku Atingani.
Officers from the Dormaa Paramount Chief’s task force arrested the four suspects on October 22 at Akontanim near Wamfie. Police spokesman Thomas Akeelah warned that officers will arrest anyone caught mining illegally in the region. The men face charges for working at unauthorized mining sites.
